Four short reads that explain each coating family, the hybrids in between and how they get from the drum to the surface.
What is polyurea?Polyurea forms when an isocyanate meets an amine resin. The reaction is fast enough that the coating can gel before it has time to run, even on vertical surfaces.
What is polyurethane?Polyurethane forms when an isocyanate meets a polyol. It is one of the most varied materials in use, from soft foam to hard floor finishes and cast machine parts.
Hybrid coatingsBetween pure polyurea and pure polyurethane sits a range of hybrids. They blend amine and polyol resins on the same side to balance speed, handling and cost of materials.
Application and equipmentThe chemistry decides the tools. Fast setting systems need equipment that heats, meters and mixes at the gun, while slower polyurethanes can go on with a roller.
